3,075 IDPs facing hardship in camps across Niger – Investigation

About three thousand and seventy five Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State who have so far been registered at two separate camps of Kuta and Bosso, are facing serious hardship, findings have revealed.
The IDPs, it was learnt, comprised of men, women, youth and children have for the last three months been trooping to various camps for safety due to incessant attacks by bandits in their area.
Director Social Development, Shiroro Local Government Area, Musa Abdullahi Kuta, told newsmen at Dr. Idris Ibrahim Primary School, Kuta, venue of one of the IDP camp, that at the moment they have registered one thousand one hundred and thirty three persons currently taken refuge.
According to him, in the last two days, over two hundred Internally Displaced Persons have been registered due to increasing number of attacks on daily basis, saying the bandits have killed many people and abducted several others for ransom.
Investigation further revealed that the IDPs are sharing just few toilets with total negligence of social distancing order of the state government to prevent spread of Coronavirus pandemic.
At the Bosso primary school centre, a total of one thousand nine hundred and thirty Internally Displaced Persons from Shiroro Local Government Area have been registered.

Desk Officer in-charge of Disaster, Mr. Usman Jagaba, said they comprise of one hundred and fifty seven adults, two hundred and thirty seven women and one thousand one hundred and eighty four children.
The IDPs are from Madalla Manta Jiko Gungi Shani and Gurmana villages among others.
Most of the affected persons interviewed by our correspondent at the camps called for provision of additional toilets facility and deployment of more security personnel to bring an end for such attacks to enable them return home.
All efforts to contact the Chairman of Shiroro Local Government, Alhaji Chukuba, for comment on plight of displaced persons failed as he is currently leaving in Minna.
