A 23-year-old security guard, Segun Ashade, was on Thursday charged with stealing his employer’s diesel worth N36,000 at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Ashade, who resides at Durotoye Street, Iju Road, Ifako-Agege, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Ishola Samuel, had told the court that the accused committed the offences at Durotoye on Iju Road, Lagos, on March 14.

He said the accused, who was an employee of the complainant, Mr Oluseye Victor , conspired with another man still at large to steal 150 litres of diesel valued at N36,000.

The offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 409 provides two years for conspiracy.

The Magistrates, Miss A.R. Onilogbo, granted the accused N20,000 bail with one surety in like sum.

She said the surety must be gainfully employed and should also show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Onilogbo adjourned the case until May 3 for mention.
