2 docked over alleged stealing, receiving stolen property

A 32-year-old Bala Abubakar, who allegedly broke into a house and stole N2 million worth of valuables, was on Monday arraigned alongside, Idris Samiru, 24, who received the stolen property.
Abubakar was brought on a charge of stealing while Samiru, is facing a charge of receiving stolen property before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The duo however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Earlier, the prosecution, Insp. Chinalu Uwadione, had told the court that Abubakar had committed the offence on Dec. 31, 2019, about 11. 25 a.m. at No. 3, Eletu Odibo St., Akoka, while Samiru had received the stolen property on Jan. 7, at Mile 12, on Ikorodu Road.
Uwadione alleged that Abubakar had stolen a Dell laptop, a Samsung A5 phone, a Lenovo laptop, iPhone XS Max, four wristwatches, shoes and perfumes, all valued at N2 million, belonging to Mr Olawale Akinbola.

He said that Samiru had received the stolen Samsung A5, which was used to track them down.
The alleged offences contravened Sections 287 and 328(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adeola Adedayo, granted the duo bail in the sum of N300,000 with one surety each, in like sum.
Adedayo adjourned the case until March 3 for mention.
