14 burnt to death in Lagos-Ibadan expressway multiple accidents

Fourteen (14) people were burnt to death as a result of multiple accidents along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
The dead victims comprised 11 adults and three children, who were said to have been burnt beyond recognition, during the accidents that happened about 8:20 p.m. on Thursday.
It was also learnt that three passengers, however, survived but with varying degrees of injuries.
The Public Relations Officer of Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, on Friday, confirmed the accidents and fatalities.
Speaking with journalists in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, he explained that the accidents involved a silver Toyota Camry with registration number: GGE 369 GJ; a silver Toyota RAV 4, with registration number, LND 13 GS, and a Mazda bus with an unidentified registration number.
The TRACE spokesman said two of the surviving rescued victims were taken to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre.
He added that one other victims was rushed to the General Hospital, Gbagada, for medical treatment.
He cautioned drivers to stop speeding, wrongful overtaking and other acts that expose road users to avoidable dangers.
Akinbiyi said: “In all, 17 passengers were in the bus when the crash happened with three seriously injured and 14 burnt beyond recognition among which are three kids.
“The burnt commercial bus was involved in wrongful overtaking before it hit a stationary vehicle (Toyota Rav4), parked in the middle of the road due to breakdown, and also hit a Camry car.
“In the process, it lost control, somersaulting severally before it burst into flames.”
