100 Level UNILAG Student Commits Suicide Over Theft Accusation

A 100-level University of Lagos student, Ariyibi Ayomide, has committed suicide after her roommates accused her of theft. Ayomide, of the Employee Relations and Human Resources Management, had been accused of taking makeup kits and clothes belonging to another roommate in Amina Hostel.

Her roommates had allegedly shamed her after the said items were found hidden in her bags on Thursday. Her mother, a worker at the university, was said to have paid for N2,000 for the makeup kit and taken her home. On her way home, with her mum, her roommates, together with hostel mates, had thrown jibes at her in public.

Ayomide was said to have drank an insecticide, Sniper. She was given palm oil as a neutraliser before she was rushed to a hospital in Ebute-Meta.

She died around 7am on Saturday. The account of the incident was given by an eyewitness, Ajani Damilola, on her facebook wall.
