Visually-impaired students get free eyeglasses in Ogun

Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Modupe Mujota has commended the Catholic Diocese of Ijebu Ode for enhancing the education of vulnerable children of visual impairment in public primary and secondary schools in the state.

Speaking at the flag off of the free optical support programme and distribution of 1,027 prescribed lenses for the visually impaired children in Ijebu Ode, the Commissioner, represented by the Coordinating Director in the Ministry, Mr. Olalekan Wasiu Kuye said the education ministry had been attending to students with special needs in the public schools.

Mujota said since assuming office, her mission had been towards achieving reliable data on in-depth information relating to challenges that could impact negatively on each student’s ability in the public schools, and in attempt to encourage concerned individuals and non-governmental organisations to assist government to make life and learning more comfortable for them.

“The administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun, despite the dwindling economic situation and the huge projects the government is embarking upon, has never paid lip service to catering for the children with special needs within our system.

To make this happen, the existing special schools in the state were given the attention it deserves as at when due. To add to this laudable attention from the government, the ministry recently presented wheelchairs to some identified special children since no one knows what the future holds for them”, she said.
