Use your platforms for progress, not retaliation, Tinubu tells youths

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerian youths to use digital platforms to drive national progress, promote unity, and deepen accountability.

Speaking at the Progressives Digital Summit held on Friday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu described digital creators and innovators as “builders of the future”.

He said their online engagement should go beyond self-promotion or anger, urging them to use technology for national development.

“So, I challenge you to use your platforms not only for self-expression, anger, or retaliation, but for problem-solving,” Tinubu said.

“Build solutions that address our nation’s needs, mentor others, and promote digital literacy and accountability in every corner of our society. Verify before you amplify.”

The president stressed that patriotism should be defined by the value individuals add to society, not “slogans and political theatre”.

“Every app developed, story told, or brand created is a statement about Nigeria’s identity and aspirations,” he said.

Tinubu also reiterated his administration’s commitment to expanding digital infrastructure, broadband access, and cybersecurity.

He pointed to initiatives such as the National Digital Innovation Fund and startup-friendly policies designed to reduce regulatory burdens.

“We are committed to ensuring that access to the internet is not a privilege but a right enjoyed by all Nigerians,” he said.

“We will not lose focus on cybersecurity as we foster innovation and entrepreneurship.”

The president urged young Nigerians to channel their creativity and ambition towards creating impact and inspiring others.

“Let your creativity inspire, your enterprise create opportunities, and your leadership uplift others,” he said.

Segun Dada, special assistant to the president on social media and convener of the summit, said the event was a call to action for stakeholders who believe in the power of digital media for national development.
