‘Universities should not graduate students in courses not accredited by NUC’

The Vice-Chancellor of McPherson University, Prof. Adeniyi Agunbiade has said it is wrong and unacceptable for any university worthy of its mandate to admit or graduate students in courses that have not been accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Agunbiade who was speaking during a press conference to inaugurate programmes of activities for the third Convocation Ceremony of the University at the Campus in Seriki Sotayo said running a programme without NUC accreditation is a taboo.

He said McPherson University as a faith-based institution has it as a policy not to admit or even graduate students in courses that have not been accredited.

Speaking, the Vice-Chancellor said, “We have not graduated any student on any programme that has not been accredited. So it is wrong to run a programme when it is not accredited.

“Although some universities do that, but we as a faith-based institution cannot do such. All our 15 different programmes are accredited and verified by NUC and most recent is B.Sc. Mass Communication.”

On how the university have been able to distinguish itself in the shortest of time said proactive developmental mechanisms were applied to achieve the needed success and exceptional student performance.

In his statement, Agunbiade said, “McPherson University employed developmental mechanisms to achieve value-added dividends on the administration of the University such as the Parents Consultative Forum where parents and Guardians are involved in the affairs of their children/wards.

“Brain Trust which is a culture of celebrating excellence and creating avenue for healthy rivalry exceptional abilities in academic performance are recognised. The initiative focuses on students with GPA of 4.5 and above at the end of each session.

“We also encourage sporting activities as our students participated in the last Nigeria Private Universities Games (NPUGA) that held at Nile University, Abuja and doubled the numbers of laurels they won at our debut appearance at the biannual fiesta.”

He said the institution also engage in corporate social responsibilities to impact her environment, manpower training and collaborative linkages and computer skill acquisition for secondary schools around the vicinity.
