Transport unions, women rally for PDP in A'Ibom
Less than two weeks to the general elections, supporters of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, have closed ranks, vowing to guarantee victories for party during the March 28 and April 11, 2015 polls.
Women, who have been galvanized by the visit of the first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan to the State at the weekend, resolved to work in unison towards the re-election of the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, as the next Governor of the State.
The women under the aegis of Onna Women Stakeholders’ Forum (OWSF), said they came under the umbrella with a view to rallying themselves for the task of unifying Nigeria under President Jonathan, at the helms with other PDP candidates seeking election and re-election at the polls.
According to the President of the group, Mrs. Mercy Cepha Ucho, it became imperative for the women to come together with a view to complementing their male counterparts in the task of promoting unity, peace and development with Jonathan and PDP, as the drivers.
Mrs. Ucho, urged the Executive members to ensure the campaigns get to every nooks and crannies of the State, adding that PDP must win massively again at the polls.
Also, transport stakeholders from Eket Federal Constituency staged a rally at the weekend in Onna, pledging to return the PDP in all elections.
The leader of the motorcyclists union, Comrade Uyoatta Ituen, assured that no stone would be left unturned in the task of returning the PDP in all competitions on March 28 and April 11.
But when the task is done, the Chairman of the Cyclists’ park, Comrade Akpan Mbak and others appealed to party leaders and stakeholders, impress it on the incoming Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and other representatives to revisit the issues of welfare and job creation for their members.
They pledged to take the campaigns on their taxis, buses, tricycles and motorcycles to the eligible voters within the Federal Constituency and beyond before the polls.
The PDP Coordinator for Onna, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang, who doubles as the chief mobilizer for JonathanSambo and UdomMoses projects, thanked the women and the transport stakeholders, assuring them that the PDP-led government has a lot in store for all, noting that only the party’s victory would guarantee the goodies from May 29, 2015.
“With regards to the ongoing construction work on the East-West Road, only victory for Jonathan would ensure its completion, and when completed, it would take about six hours to navigate from Akwa Ibom, Port Harcourt, Delta through Benin to Lagos.
“The President must get his constitutional second term to be able to fix the road and other infrastructures.
“The North had ruled the country, the West also under Olusegun Obasanjo, took some 13 years as Military Head of State and civilian President, but I wonder why there is so much fuss about Jonathan’s eight years constitutional mandate for Niger Delta,” he said.
