Thugs assault Oshiomhole’s younger brother in Edo

Titus Akhigbe, Benin

The crisis rocking the Edo state House of Assembly over the midnight inauguration of the assembly, may have worsened as yet to be identified thugs allegedly attacked Seidu Oshiomhole, the younger brother to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole in Benin.

The thugs were said to have attacked Oshiomhole, who is also a member-elect on Tuesday while in the company of 14 other lawmakers-elect.

The lawmakers were reportedly holding a meeting at an undisclosed location when they were allegedly attacked by thugs.

According to sources, the meeting was necessitated by Monday’s midnight inauguration of nine members of the new parliament and the subsequent election of Frank Okiye as speaker.

Our correspondent reports that nine members-elect out of the 24-man assembly had met at the state assembly complex and elected the incumbent speaker sparking off the current crisis.

The ongoing crisis in the state assembly may not be unconnected with the misunderstanding between Governor Godwin Obaseki and his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole.
