Striking UI staff unions sheathe swords

The three non-teaching staff unions at the University of Ibadan have suspended their two-week-old strike.
It will be recalled that the unions, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and the Non-Academic Staff Unions (NASU), embarked on a warning strike from Friday 29 July to protest shortfall in salary payment and the ownership of staff school.
The suspension of the strike resurrected administrative activities at the university yesterday as students resumed for the second semester of the 2015/2016 session.
Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, while speaking with journalists, lauded the intervention of all the parties, individuals, bodies and groups, on the successful negotiations that saw to the end of the strike while promising members to always explore lawful means to better the welfare of staff and students.
He assured that the issue of staff school of the institution is being resolved through a committee set-up comprising all stakeholders, stating that no staff of the school will be sacked.
