Senators Akinyelure, Alonge, Tofowomo win PDP tickets in Ondo

Senatorial candidates that will be flying the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) flag across the three senatorial districts of Ondo State during the 2019 general elections have emerged.
The candidates emerged during the primaries conducted across the senatorial districts of the state.
In the Northern Senatorial District which comprised of six local government areas of Akoko North West, Akoko North East, Akoko South West, Akoko South East, Ose and Owo local government, where three aspirants contested for the party’s ticket, Segun Philips-Alonge (Akoko North West local government)
was announced the winner with 339 votes ahead of his closest rival, Tokunbo Modupe (Ose local government) who pulled 280 votes and Saka Lawal (Akoko North West local government) with a total of 98 votes.
The primary which was also contested by three aspirants in Ondo South Senatorial District saw to the emergence of the former commissioner for transport in the state, Nicholas Tofowomo (Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo local government) as the winner with 241 with Engr. Ademulegun pulling 227 votes which was followed by Barr Sola Ebiseni (Ilaje local government) with 177 votes
Also in the primaries for the Ondo Central Senatorial District Sen. Akinyelure also known as All Over (Idanre local government) pulled a total of 338 votes to emerged victorious while his closest rival, the former deputy governor of the state, Omolade Oluwateru (Akure South local government) garnered 253 votes, with the third aspirant Olabisi Johnson (Ondo West local government) securing 63 votes.
The party’s electoral officer, Bamido Omogbehin who announced the result stated that a total of 657 was recorded with 3 void votes.
The primary election which was conducted in Akure, the Ondo State capital was witnessed by observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the national body of the party as well as security operatives.
Sen. Akinyelure who represented the senatorial district in the upper chamber of the National Assembly under the PDP platform from 2012 to 2015, will be facing other senatorial candidates, at the next year’s polls, particularly the incumbent All Progressives Congress, APC, senator, Tayo Alasoadura who defeated him in 2015.
After he lost the election to Sen. Alasoadura in 2015, Akinyelure defected to the APC before returning to the PDP some months back after resigning his appointment as the Chairman of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency.
