Search for peace a scarce commodity in Plateau — STF boss

The search for peace is on the lips of every well meaning residents on the Plateau and this is because everyone is tired of the incessant crisis that has hitherto bedeviled the state in recent times, says the Special Task Force Commander, Major General Agustine Agundu. Gen. Agundu who spoke on Wednesday at the Phase 2 product launch of the Plateau Peace Building Agency (PPBA), tagged Consolidating Mechanism For Sustainable Cooperation and Transformation of Farmer/Herder Conflict, also said the attainment of peace is beyond speaking grammar. He said it is most imperative for the search of peace to get to the communities and locals who are the victims of violence, adding that all the victims are looking forward to is to return to their ancestral homes with a guarantee that their lives will be protected. “It is my resolve that the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), will be resettled in their various communities before the end of December. It is not time to speak grammar but to take actions that will see to it that the IDPs are moved back to their ancestral homes with the assurance that they will sleep and wake up in peace”, he said. The STF boss also appeal to all stakeholders on the Plateau to play active role in ensuring that the youths are well guided if any meaningful achievement on peace building will be attained and sustained. Earlier, the Director General Plateau Peace Building Agency, Joseph Lengmang said there is still much to be done in terms of peace building in Plateau and beyond. Lengmang said the new and emerging conflict trends in our state have the potential to undermine or jeopardize the modest achievements recorded in our post conflict peace building process. He however assured that the agency will continue to work tirelessly with the Special Task Force in the state for the promotion and sustenance of peace. By Kingsley Chukwuka, Jos
