‘Sadiku not arrested, voluntarily honoured EFCC’s invitation’ — NIPC

On Monday, Yewande Sadiku, the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission’s executive secretary/CEO, freely accepted an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and was neither arrested or detained, according to the NIPC.

The EFCC had reportedly apprehended and imprisoned Sadiku for alleged contract fraud, according to media sources.

Other anti-corruption organizations had already reviewed petitions against Sadiku, according to the NIPC, and she was determined not to have any case to answer.

Sadiku was praised as a “diligent public servant who is proud of her service to Nigeria” by the NIPC in a press statement.

“She is deeply committed to governance and accountability and therefore challenges anyone with evidence of any wrongdoing by her in her service to the NIPC to make it public,” the statement reads.

“The petitions being investigated by EFCC contain issues that have been investigated by other anti-corruption agencies, none of whom has indicated that she has any case to answer.

“She honoured an invitation by the EFCC on 09 August 2021; she was neither detained nor arrested.”

Since November 2016, Sadiku has served as the NIPC’s executive secretary and CEO.

She was the executive director in charge of Stanbic IBTC Group’s corporate and investment banking operations until October 2016, ensuring that business prospects in Nigeria’s difficult operating environment were realized.
