Robbers kill two policemen in Onitsha, collect one Ak47 rifle

The Police in Anambra state on Monday, again, lost two of its men to dare-devil armed bandits at the Upper Iweka area of Onitsha and made away with their riffle.
It was gathered that the robbers who were operating with a motor-bike took the police team by surprise, shot them at close range, leading to their death before they made away with one AK47 rifle belonging to one of the policemen.
According to eyewitnesses, one of the policemen, Inspector Cyril Onyia, who was rushed to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, NAUTH, Nnewi was confirmed dead on arrival while the other, Sergeant Ike Anari, died on the spot.
The deceased were said to be attached to the operations department, Awka and were on patrol when they met their untimely death.
Confirming the incident, the Onitsha Police Area Commander, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mr. Yahaya Abubakar, said the incident took place in Awada that is within Awka Area Police command.
No fewer than five Policemen have been killed within a space of three months in Idemili and Onitsha axis this year.
Some keen observers of events in the State have attributed the consistent killing of Police in the state to the build-up leading to the November 18, 2017 governorship election.
