Robbers Invade Banks in Ondo, Kill Manager
Armed robbers on Thursday invaded Owo town, in Ondo State and shot dead a bank manager with the Wema Bank Plc. The robbers, about eight, also raided another two banks in the town and injured several residents who were trying to scamper for safety.
Daily Times gathered that the bandits stormed the bank around 5pm and forcefully gained entry into the premises, shooting sporadically. It was gathered that the armed robbers came into the town through the Abuja express road and divided themselves into groups to attack the banks.
A source in the town said the robbery was bloody as many innocent citizens who were killed while trying to safe their lives were soaked in pools of bloods from gunshots. The source told our correspondent that Policemen manning strategic locations in the banks flew the scene as a result of the sophisticated guns handled by the robbers.
Although, the robbers carted away huge sums but the amount could not yet be ascertained as at press time. It was gathered that the armed robbers escaped arrest despite the presence of Police officers at the scene of the incident. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr Wole Ogodo who confirmed the incident to Daily Times said men of the state Police command had been deployed to the town to enforce orderliness and added that details of the incident were still sketchy.
