Mutfwang Condemns Killings in Barkin Ladi, Warns Against ‘De-Marketing’ Plateau
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has condemned the recent killings in Dorowa Babuje and Jong communities in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.
The governor spoke in Jos shortly after a meeting with security chiefs. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that gunmen on Tuesday night killed 10 persons in the affected communities. Following the incident, angry youths blocked a major highway in protest, a development that reportedly led to the death of four additional persons.
Mutfwang commiserated with the bereaved families and described attempts to portray Plateau as unsafe as mischievous.
“Let me first, on behalf of the Government of Plateau, commiserate with the families that lost their loved ones in the recent happenings in the state.
“But let me say this: people who want to make capital of these isolated incidents and try to tell a story that Plateau roads are not safe are nothing but mischief makers.
“Plateau roads are safe; Plateau people are peace-loving.
“We do admit that there have been a few incidents here and there over the years, but they are totally disconnected and isolated, and therefore must not be used to mischaracterise Plateau,” he said.
The governor warned individuals using social media to “de-market” the state to desist, stressing that anyone caught would face consequences.
He also advised residents against blocking highways under any guise, noting that such actions portray the state negatively to the outside world. Calling for calm, Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
He commended security agencies for proactive measures taken to prevent further escalation and pledged continued government support to enhance security operations. The governor further urged traditional and religious leaders to cooperate with the government in ensuring lasting peace in Plateau.
