Reps task police, DSS on release of abducted ex-minister, husband 

The House of Representatives, on Wednesday, tasked the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to facilitate the release of the former Minister of Environment, Mrs. Lawrencia Mallam and her husband, who were kidnapped on Monday along the Bwari/Jere road.

The House resolution is sequel to the adoption of a motion sponsored by Rep. Sunday Marshall Katung representing Zango Kataf/ Jabari Federal Constituency of Kaduna state.
While calling on the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the DSS to intensify efforts to ensure the safe release of the kidnapped couple and thie apprehension of their abductors, the House further advised the police and other security agencies to step up strict surveillance on the Bwari/Jere/Kafuna Road.
Moving his motion, Rep. Katung disclosed that the former minister, her husband, Mr. Pius Mallam were kidnapped at about 7pmafter their attackers had shot at the driver of the couple.
He added that the kidnappers dispossessed the driver of his mobile phone and thereafter used the phone to contact a family member to demand for ransom.
The lawmaker observed that the Beari/Jere Road is a major route to many localities of Kaduna state from Abuja as well as the North West geo-political region of the country.
According to him, 48 hours after the kidnapping, the police and other security agencies have been unable to secure the release of the victims, adding that “in recent times there has been a lot of kidnappings and killings on that route and also the likelihood of the reoccurrence of such incidence(s).”
