Reprieve for Katampe community as businessman construct access road

Residents of Katampe community which is bordered by Gishiri, another suburb community in the FCT are all smiles as the access road which has been abandoned for years is now undergoing construction.The road construction project undertaken by G-COPLEX Nigeria Limited has been under construction for the past one month.

The Philanthropist and businessman sponsoring the project, Abdulhamid Mahmud says the gesture was part of his Corporate Social Responsibility and effort to complement government’s effort in the area of infrastructure.
“Being a businessman particularly with focus on developing properties, it became necessary for me to construct the access road as I have purchased property in the community and there is no access road, as such you can’t invest your property when there is no access road. 
“The road is a three kilometre road is located road located in Katampe village has not been accessed by vehicles in years as the residents suffer suffer to before they reach their homes especially in the raining season due lack of access road.
“In addition to lack of access road, they lack good water and electricity, as such we provided borehole for them because we know government cannot do it alone, so I decided to put my effort in ensuring something is done,” he explained.
Mahmud added that the FCT administration has good intentions, but maybe he is lacking the accurate information especially what is happening in the suburbs especially in infrastructure like access road as in the  case of Katampe village that links to other villages and even Maitama town.
He added that the initial estimated amount for the project was N400 million, but due to bad nature of the soil, it incurred extra expenses. He however stated that everything will be concluded in the coming days.
“Initially N400 million was estimated for the primary infrastructure, meaning bringing refuse out the roads, compacting the roads, putting gravels and doing the drainages which is the primary infrastructure. Later we discover that for that the soil is bad, so we are cutting the soil. At most we will round up the work in 1 week because we have been here for the past 22 days,” he added.
He urged the environmental department and development control officials of the federal capital territory to visit the site after it is completed and put necessary regulations to ensure that refuse does not overtake the road again.Attachments area
