Pray for healthy, prosperous Nigeria, Police minister urges Christians

The Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Mohammad Dingyadi, has called on Christians to pray for a health and prosperous Nigeria as they join their counterparts across the world to mark the Easter celebration.

A statement by Mr Ehisienmen Osaigbovo,  the Press Secretary to the Minister on Saturday in Abuja, said the call became necessary in view of the current Covid-19 pandemic facing the world.

Dingyadi was quoted as expressing his warm felicitations to Christians in Nigeria and across the globe as they celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The minister said the 2020 Easter celebration came  at a trying time, when humanity was in dire need of spiritual strength and sacrifice to overcome the threats of covid-19.

He called on Nigerians to adhere to the restriction of movement order by the Federal Government in Lagos, Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and those, imposed by state governors.

Dingyadi said the restriction was not punitive, but aimed at protecting Nigerians from the scourge of Covid-19 pandemic.

He said the pandemic had resulted to thousands of fatalities in some advanced nations and currently, compromising world economy, education, religion and social life.

The minister urged Nigerians to embrace the restriction in good fate and cooperate with the police and other law enforcement personnel in the enforcement of government directive.

He said idea was to enable health workers identify, test, isolate and treat infected persons to avoid community transmission.

The minister,  therefore, enjoined law enforcement officers to ensure professionalism to avoid “apathy syndrome”.

Dingyadi used the occasion of Easter celebration to salute the selflessness and patriotism of financial donors, health officers, the media, security personnel and other stakeholders for their efforts towards combating covid-19.
