Polls: ALGON endorses Jonathan

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), on Sunday, endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term re-election bid.

Speaking at a press conference shortly after a meeting of chairmen of the 774 local councils in the country, National President of ALGON, Mr. Micah Jibah, said they were satisfied with President Jonathan’s performance and have unanimously endorsed him for another term of four years.

“We have taken cognizance of the achievements of President Goodluck Jonathan, especially at the grass root, including his support for local government autonomy. Also in Agriculture, farmers in the rural areas now have value chain for their agricultural product.

“President Jonathan is making the local government administration work. We also applaud him for establishing Almajiri schools and the additional 14 federal varsities in the country,” Jibah said.

ALGON condemned the proliferation of small fire arms and urged all security agencies to carry out a mop up exercise. “We appreciate the president and the Nigeria soldiers for quelling the insurgents. We also commiserate with the families that lost their loves ones,” ALGON said.

The association also commended the FCT Minister, Sen Bala Mohammed, for making Abuja a dream city for all. “This implies that the Jonathan administration has performed, and is still performing. We, therefore, endorsed Mr. President for another term, so that Nigeria would remain on the path of prosperity. Come March 28, Jonathan will be return,” ALGON declared.

Minister of Special Duties, Barr Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, said at the conference that as elected chairmen, who know the yearnings of the people at the grass root, ALGON has respected the wishes of the people.

“With the endorsement of President Jonathan, ALGON has respected the wishes of the people, asserting that in the history of Nigeria no president’s work has touched the lives of Nigerians like the Jonathan administration,” Turaki said.

Also speaking during the occasion, minister of the FCT said: “We are not surprised that ALGON has seen the good work of Jonathan. All should support the president for a better Nigeria.”
