Police arraigns four suspected robbers in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command in their determination to sustain the zero crime rate in the State has arraigned four suspects for robbery at the Onitsha Magistrate Court.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Fegge Police Station, Onitsha, Rabiu Garba, who said this stated that the suspects were among the robbers who were terrorising the area and some of them were arrested before and after the November 18, 2017 governorship election in the state.

He explained the upsurge of crime shortly after the election which came to a climax last Sunday, when hoodlums took over Upper Iweka and environs, where they robbed snatched cash, hand bags, handsets, valuables was due to an uprising by hoodlums hired by politicians during the election but were not paid.

Rabiu said the Police responded immediately and arrested some of the criminals, some of whom have been charged to the court, stating that they have spread dragnet to arrest those who think can disrupt the peace and sanity of the area.

He said to ensure affective policing of the states, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Garba has appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IG), to ALLOW some police Mobile Force, who came for the election to stay back, so that that there would be physical presence of the police in the state especially during the yuletide.

The DPO asked organisations, communities and individuals who have engagements this season to apply for police for protection.

He assured that the Police in the state as usual will effectively manage the traffic situation at the Onitsha Niger Bridge during this Christmas season, saying that they managed it last year and they got result.

Rabiu said the failed portion at Asaba end of the bridge has been part of the gridlock at the bridge but now that it is beings repaired, the traffic at that side would be improved this season.

He noted that the presence of Police, the Army and the Road Safety officers at the Asaba end, which causes traffic grid lock but said he would talk to the State Commissioner of Police to liaise with his Delta state counterpart to tell other services on the need to free the road especially during this season.

On the Onitsha end, said, the DPO, “ I talked to the soldier, CTU and Road Safety personnel on the danger of road block on the bridge. So, my end is free; our problem is Asaba end but we will solve it. We will put more traffic Police on the bridge to free the traffic. I will be there personally.

I assure Anambraraian, especially those in my areas that this yuletide would be free of crime. The commissioner of police has designed the operational modalities, which we are following here.

He called on the people to report any suspicious movement as well as any information about criminals to help the police to continue to burst crime in the state.
