Plateau PDP crisis: Atiku’s N10m IDP’s donation with Gbong Gwom – Sango

By Kingsley Chukwuka, Jos

The embattled Plateau state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Damishi Sango on Thursday, said the controversial Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) funds donated by the party’s presidential flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar, was given to the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Gyang Buba.

Sango said that Atiku gave N10 million to support the IDPs when he visited Jos, during his campaign tour and when the money was released, it was transmitted to the Gbong Gwom.

Daily Times recalls that the Plateau state PDP chairman was on Wednesday suspended by a 16 -member faction of the party, for allegedly embezzling N3.1milion meant for the IDPs.

Responding to the accusation, Sango said N3.1 million was raised by the party and not Atiku to support the IDPs and that it was judiciously utilized, but for the N10million donation, the money was handed over to the paramount ruler.

“The money they are talking about was the one raised among ourselves for the IDPs which was judiciously utilized. I still remain the chairman of the party and that is why I am seating in my office to address you.

“16 members cannot remove me from office because my hands are clean and if I must be removed, due process must be followed. We need peace in the party, but some misguided persons in the party want to distract us so that we will not make a headway at the governorship election tribunal.

“We have massive evidence to win at the tribunal and we will not allow anyone to distract us,” Sango said.

On his part, the representative of the party chairmen in the 17 local government areas, Dauda Waptu, said they were not consulted before the suspension notice was issued to the state party chairman.

Waptu advised the aggrieved members to follow due process in their dealings, adding that Sango remains the leader of the party until the right thing is done.
