PDP Governors: No anti-party force can stop our national convention

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum have sounded a note of warning to anti-party forces within the party as the November national convention draws close.

In an official statement issued on Saturday after a meeting in Gusau, the PDP governors reiterated their support for the national convention slated for November in Ibadan, Oyo state.

On July 24, the PDP’s national executive committee (NEC) approved November 15 and 16 for the election of new national working committee (NWC) members.

After the NEC meeting, some party members who felt sidelined threatened to ensure that the national convention does not hold.

Wike also threatened that the internal issues in the PDP would not be over until the party recognises the outcome of the south-south zonal congress held in Calabar where his ally, Dan Orbih was elected chairman.

Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo state, however, promised to reach out to some aggrieved members and not go into the gutter with certain people.

“Personally, when people go low, or they go into the gutters, I don’t go with them,” Makinde said.

Nevertheless, the forum has warned the members to desist from all forms of antiparty and ensure that the party’s goal ahead of the 2027 election is achieved.

“The Forum reaffirms its full commitment to the resolutions of the 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of July 2025 regarding the November 15 National Convention.

“It urges members to resist all attempts to derail the convention by anti-party forces; but to see the PDP as the only democratic institution and viable alternative for restoring Nigeria along the path of good governance and national development,” the statement reads.
