Under the visionary leadership of Otunba Gbenga Daniel during his tenure as the Executive Governor of Ogun State (2003-2011), the state witnessed an unprecedented transformation in the educational sector. Recognizing education as the bedrock of sustainable development, Daniel prioritized infrastructure, accessibility, and the establishment of specialized institutions to serve various regions of the state.

One of his earliest landmark interventions was the relocation of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) from its temporary site at Ago Iwoye Secondary School to a permanent, purpose-built campus, setting the tone for long-term academic growth. Further strengthening higher education, he spearheaded the establishment of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in 2005—the first of its kind in Nigeria, solely dedicated to teacher education.
He also relocated Tai Solarin College of Education to its permanent site in Omu, later renamed Sikiru Adetona College of Education, enhancing its physical and academic development.
In his drive to promote vocational and technical education, Daniel established Gateway ICT Polytechnic in Sapade, Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic in Ijebu Igbo, Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic in Itori, and Gateway ICT Polytechnic in Igbesa. These institutions were strategically located to serve different zones in the state.
In addition, he launched the Gateway Industrial and Petrochemical Institute (GIPI) in Oni, the College of Agriculture in Aiyetoro (a campus of OOU), and the College of Technology in Ibogun (also under OOU). These institutions diversified academic offerings and increased access to professional and technical training across Ogun State, ensuring that education was both inclusive and forward-thinking.
