Organisers thumb up Okonkwo Round of 32 teams

Participants among the Round of 32 teams at the on-going Season 15 of the annual Bishop Mike Okonkwo Football Competition has been commended by the organisers for maintaining high level of discipline and abiding to the rules of fair play in the championship.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the championship, Deacon Malachy Ndubuzor told Extra Time that since the commencement of the second round of the tournament, no act of indiscipline has been recorded both from the players and officials.

He noted that he is happy they are keeping to the advice given to them by the sponsor before the commencement of the biggest grassroots football tournament in the country.

“Members of the LOC are happy that starting from the Round of 64 matches to the Round of 32, we’ve not recorded any act of indiscipline from any of the teams.

” You will remember that when we had our football Sunday to herald the commencement of the games, the sponsor and presiding Bishop of ” The Redeemed Evangelical Mission” (TREM), Bishop Mike Okonkwo charged the teams to play to the rules of the game and make fair play their watch word and that is what we’ve been witnessing,” he stated.

Ndubuzor, urged the teams to maintain their level of discipline which the competition is noted for since inception till the finals which comes up on September 2 at the Yaba College of Technology.

Meanwhile, in some of the matches decided over the weekend, Synergy Ultimate Strikers played a 1-1 draw with Young Stars FC, while the match between Young Talent King 99 FA and Tao FC also ended in a 1-1 draw.

In the other matches, Soccer City FC walked over Royal Sporting FC while Great Commission FC and Great Innovation FC were disqualified for tampering with their players’ licenses.

The game continues on Wednesday at the Practice Pitch of the National Institute For Sports (NIS), Lagos.
