Ondo guber poll: We’ll cater for less-privileged, Jegede assures

Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, (SAN), on Thursday, restated his commitment to the welfare of aged citizens and the infirm, describing his proposed administration as “a welfare centre.”
Jegede disclosed this while disbursing petty cash, food items and other domestic needs to senior citizens and other less-privileged residents of the state who thronged his campaign office in Akure, the state capital.
The contestant, who was represented during the distribution by one of his aides, Mr. Olumide Ogunkua, noted that he had imbibed the habit of contributing his little quota to the upkeep of the aged and the infirm, right from his days as Ondo State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General.
“This is a programme that I have embarked upon at private level, bearing the limitation of my income. But it is all about a belief-system. We believe that Nigerians who had spent their prime to contribute to the development of this country should not suffer at old age.
“In the same vein, we believe that people who suffered one deformity or the other owing to the vagaries of life deserve to be taken care of and protected, to maintain a healthy society.
“That is why if we are elected on November 26, we can assure the less-privileged people that our administration will care for them through series of welfarist programmes that we have designed,” he stressed.
The candidate reiterated his cardinal objectives of job provision through massive industrialisation and agric expansion programmes cutting across the 18 local government areas of the state.
Responding, one of the beneficiaries, an Octogenarian, Pa Michael Adelowo, said he was marveled that Jegede had been taking care of him in the last seven years as a private individual.
“So, I believe that when he gets there, my lot is going to be greatly improved,” he enthused.
