The Ondo State House of Assembly has, again, decried the deplorable state of federal roads in the state.
This is just as the lawmakers congratulated the speaker, Right Honourable Oladiji Olamide Adesanmi, on his election as vice chairman (South) of the Nigeria Conference of Speakers.
Rising from a parliamentary meeting recently, leadership and members of the Assembly described the situation of federal roads in the state as an eyesore.
Citing Elegbeka – Ifon road, Ipele – Idoani – Abuja road, Akure – Owena – Ondo road and Ado-Ekiti – Akure road “which have all been washed away, especially by the recent rainfalls, thereby leaving the roads in a state of complete disrepair, a situation that has left commuters plying the roads in pains and anguish.”
According to a statement issued by the chairman, House Committee on Information, Honourable Emmanuel Olatunji Oshati, the House resolved again to write a reminder letter to the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) “on the precarious state of these roads.”
“The Speaker of the House, Olamide Oladiji, directed the Clerk of the House to write a letter to the federal agency without any further delay.
“The House empathised with residents of Ondo State and the road users over the unfortunate situation of federal roads across the state, assuring that it will leave no stone unturned at getting the attention of relevant agencies of Federal Government to fix the roads as quickly as possible.
“The House urged residents and road users in the state to be patient and be law abiding while solution is being pursued towards ameliorating the pains associated with the use of the roads,” Oshati said.

Meanwhile, the lawmakers have described the speaker’s election as an honour well deserved.
Oshati said in another statement at the weekend that: “You have demonstrated a high sense of leadership quality since your assumption of office as the speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly.
“To us as a body of lawmakers in the Ondo State House of Assembly, you have proven yourself to be a leader and team player and we are proud to associate with your numerous successes in office.
“No wonder the saying that a ‘golden fish has no hiding place.’ Your election into the exalted position of Vice Chairman (South) of the Speakers’ Conference is a testament to your giant strides among your peers in the business of lawmaking,” the House said.
