Obidigbo, 50,000 APGA members defect to APC

An ex-governorship candidate in Anambra State, Dr. Chike Obidigbo, has dumped his party for the All Progressives Congress (APC), The Punch reports. This comes even as 50,000 others left APGA for APC ahead of the gubernatorial election coming up in the state next year.
Dr Chike Obidigbo, an ex-governorship candidate in Anambra state and 50,000 members have dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress.
While receiving the defectors, the APC state chairman in the state, Emeka Ibe, said Obidigbo’s defection was memorable. Speaking at the event held in Obidigbo’s premises at Umunya in Oyi local government area of the state, Ibe described the ex-APGA gubernatorial candidate’s defection as long expected.
On his part, Obidigbo said APC was not the first or only political party to approach him and his co-defectors, but that they decided to join APC because “it is peaceful, has the political muscle and national spread.”
He added: “It’s not always wise to stay on the fringes, because the nation’s democratic system is such that one needs to be there when issues will be discussed for you to be properly accommodated. “The APC leadership approached us because of our ideology, spread and numerical strength.”
Obidigbo noted that he saw the APC as the place to be if the South East geopolitical zone must be heard and considered in the scheme of things. According to Chief Azuka Okwuosa, a chieftain and leader of the APC in Anambra state, Obidigbo’s defection is “very healthy.” Okwuosa said Obidigbo had deep knowledge and experience, noting that having been a lecturer stood him out. He described Obidigbo as an accomplished person who is ready to transform lives of citizens.
