Nwifuru suspends 25 commissioners, 60 others for missing state function

Francis Nwifuru, governor of Ebonyi state, has suspended 85 political appointees for failing to attend what the state described as an “important” government function.

Those affected include 25 commissioners, 14 senior special assistants, 24 special assistants, and 22 permanent secretaries.

In a statement issued on Monday, Monday Uzor, chief press secretary to the governor, said the suspension takes immediate effect.

He said the officials are to proceed on “one-month working suspension without salary”.

Uzor also said the affected officials will not be allowed to sign any official document during the suspension period.

He added that all suspended commissioners have been directed to hand over to their respective permanent secretaries.

“The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has directed that the underlisted government functionaries proceed on one-month working suspension without salary for failure to attend an important government function,” the statement said.

“The governor remains firm in ensuring all government officials uphold the highest standards of conduct and dedication in serving the people of Ebonyi State.”

This is not the first disciplinary action by the governor.

In March, Nwifuru sacked two aides over alleged misconduct—Felix Okemini, senior special assistant on security (Ebonyi North), and Nnanna Nwangele, special assistant on airport security.
