NSCDC dismantles illegal mining site in Nasarawa, arrests three foreign nationals

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dismantled a heavily fortified illegal mining site in Rafin Gabas, Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The operation, carried out by the Mining Marshals, a special squad of the NSCDC, resulted in the arrest of three foreign nationals.

This was contained in a press statement from CSC Babawale Afolabi, the Public Relations Officer, NSCDC National Headquarters, Abuja on Friday.

According to the NSCDC, the site was previously protected by compromised security personnel and had evaded law enforcement for a long time. However, through a tactically coordinated and intelligence-driven operation, the Mining Marshals successfully stormed the site and dismantled it.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, commended the operation, calling it a “crucial milestone” in the government’s fight against illegal mining. “We are committed to cracking down on illegal mining operations and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable,” Alake stated.

The NSCDC has pledged to continue its relentless onslaught against economic saboteurs, including those involved in illegal mining. The agency has also vowed to ensure that those responsible for the illegal mining site are brought to justice.

The operation is a significant step in the government’s efforts to curb illegal mining in Nigeria. The Mining Marshals have been working tirelessly to identify and dismantle illegal mining sites across the country.
