NLC tasks FG on sustaining fight on corruption

The federal government has been charged to sustain the war against corruption, which it started on the resumption of the present administration of Mohammadu Buhari.

This massage was contained in an open solidarity letter by the NLC to the presidency on the recent happenings in the country regarding the alleged encroachment on the fundamental human rights of Nigerians.

In a letter signed by the national president of the NLC, said it wants to drew attention to a case of corruption, violation of public civil service rules and victimization of whistle blowers at the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri.
In the letter entitled ‘The Fight Against Corruption Must Be Sustained’ dated October 28, 2016 the NLC said it found it necessary to avail the federal government of developments in the case of the embattled Medical Director, Dr. Angela Uwakem, together with Mr. Emmanuel Ajayi and his company, Swiss Biostadt Ltd, who were arraigned on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, before the Justice Florence Duruoha of Imo State High Court, Owerri.

According to the NLC, the court granted the accused persons bail and adjourned proceedings to January 24, 2017 to consider the motion challenging the jurisdiction of the court.
The NLC argued that its concern, are both judicial and administrative. At the judicial level, the labour body said it believes that the ruling is procured and in furtherance of.

At the administrative level, this arraignment, it said, makes necessary and urgent the invocation of the Public Service Rules 030406 and 030411 which respectively state as follows: “It shall apply where a prima facie case, the nature of which is serious, has been established against an officer and it is necessary to public interest that he/she should forthwith be prohibited from carrying out his/her duties. Pending investigation into the misconduct.

The Federal Civil Service Commission or the Permanent Secretary/Head of Extra-Ministerial Office (if within his/her delegated powers) shall forthwith suspend him/her from the exercise of the powers and functions of his/her office from the enjoyment of his/her emolument.”
