NLC pickets MDAs in Abia
The on-going Nigeria Labour Congress strike across the nation, took a partial dimension in Abia as obedience was divided along factions at the national level.
In Aba, reports had it that it was successful, while in Umuahia, it was partial with the Comrade Ayuba Wabba-led faithful under Uchenna Obigwe enforcing compliance on the workers in the state.
Speaking with newsmen in his office on arrival from Abuja, Obigwe, who is the government recognised NLC chairman in the state said there was no partial strike in the state, except that the strike only started yesterday morning.
He said he created three zones in the state for effective monitoring, stating that after the meeting with the federal government, NLC had resolved to go ahead with the strike action, continuing from where they stopped “until all is grounded”.
While stating that the strike is indefinite, Obigwe said NLC in the state is not factionalised and not selfish at the national level like the Trade Union Congress (TUC), stating that if they do so, they would be disappointing Nigerians.
Obigwe said the Federal Government had reneged on their agreement on fuel pump price and electricity tariff, pointing out that the issue of minimum wage cannot be tied to an issue detrimental to the people.
He said that the worker cannot spend the N56,000.00 on fuel and electricity, hence the decision of NLC to settle the fuel issue first.
“Government has no human face”, he said stating that the bulletin the FG issued favoured petroleum importers, not the masses.
He described TUC as not a trade union, but an association created by the then Olusegun Obasanjo administration to diminish NLC and who are now helping to kill itself.
