Nipco constructs new 5,000MT LPG storage facility

The Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO) has embarked on the construction of a 5,000-metric tonne (MT) Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) storage facility to ameliorate the challenges of domestic supply of cooking gas in the country.

NIPCO spokesman, Taofeek Lawal, disclosed this during the company’s facility tour with the media on the ongoing 5,000 MT LPG storage capacity in Lagos.

Lawal said that the additional 5,000MT storage tank project when completed this year, would promote growth in Nigeria‟s LPG market, adding that the facility commenced in April 2016, with over 80 workers and had not recorded any causality.

The NIPCO spokesman said when completed, the company will have a total of 9,800MT of LPG storage capacity, adding that it has also recorded over 110,000 man hours spent on the projects.

He said the project is part of NIPCO‟s conscious initiative to deepen the LPG market through a well-articulated project and policy for the benefit of all stakeholders.

According to him, over the years, the company has put in place a massive 4,500 MTLPG storage facility to deepen the domestic gas market.

“Today, another 5,000MT LPG storage facility is about to be completed to enhance growth and boost cooking gas availability in Nigeria. These initiatives are essential to encourage other companies to join hands in growing the economic and environmental benefits of LP gas against the backdrop of the abundant gas resources in the country,” he said.

Lawal assured stakeholders of the company‟s commitment in increasing gas infrastructure in the country, as epitomised by the billions of naira investment in the sector.
