NGO empowers 2000 women with certificate

Under the auspices of a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) Future Assured, “Women Economic Empowerment Programme for Poverty Alleviation”, says, it has empowered 2000 women with certificate of attendance after the skill acquisition program, yesterday.

Women Economic Empowerment Programme for Poverty Alleviation is one of the components of ‘Future Assured’ a pet project of wife of the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria Aisha Buhari, which encompasses healthcare delivery, education among others, held in Lagos last year.

Speaking at the event, coordinator of the skill acquisition program, Mrs Stella Akande
said that the women had been trained properly, while machines and other learning tools were allocated for them to train with.
Akande said, Money was spent massively, as all the equipment during the training were provided by the NGO.

Contributing, public servant Aisha Alabankudi urged that they had been trained, noting, in the nearest future they would be given kits to start up something, advising them to be focused. “My message to the women is for them to be focused and know themselves. They needed to be motivated , plan themselves and know whom they are and they should not stop learning. They should develop themselves, they should keep learning and even learn from the people they trained,” She noted.

She said, the women should help themselves in order to help others, and equally charged them to seek advice as well as to avoid to be opinionated.

A beneficiary, Princess Franca Okogie Idumudia said, “We came here today on the invitation of Aisha Buhari. She empowered all the women you see here today, and we asked we should come today for the award only for us to come here and we are told that we are giving paper as certificate and when I decided to ask of a more empowerment benefit which is finance , only for me to be court marshalled by the police and asked to sit down and talk less.

I prayed that Aisha Buhari should not abandoned the multitude of women here today because the women are really suffering considering what we are going through in this country and something beneficial will happen to the life of these women. But with what I’m seeing there is no form of empowerment benefit like finance, only for women to be given only paper which is certificate of empowerment without the financial benefit.”

Idumudia who therefore pleaded that Mrs Buhari should not forget the women, on a flip side, advised the good women to remain focused and face the challenges in order to eradicate this ugly trend.”We are responsible and married women. Let us go and sell pure water and empower ourselves pending when God will touch Aisha mind to bless us,” She said.
