Newly-elected Vietnamese PM puts forward key priorities

The newly-elected Prime Minister of Vietnam Nguyen Phuc has put forward key priorities that the government will focus.

Phuc said in an interview with newsmen that those priorities would include stabilising the macro-economy, promoting economic growth and reforming administrative procedures.

He encouraged start-ups, tapping creativity, talent and rallying all possible resources for development.

“Discipline in the state administration and the entire society will be strengthened, corruption and wastefulness will be drastically reduced.
“The government will resolutely safeguard independence, sovereignty and national territorial integrity.

“More attention would be paid to ensuring the material and spiritual lives of the people, as well as their security and safety,’’ Phuc said.

Phuc said that he and the government would do their best to fix shortcomings, uphold democracy and continue accelerating comprehensive renewal and international integration, contributing to fulfilling socio-economic development goals.

He pledged to build a transparent, strong, united government that would take drastic, creative and effective actions, and do its best to serve the people.
The PM also called for building and upholding the power of the great national unity in combination with the power of modern times in order to create a strong, wealthy country under the ideals of democracy and fairness.

Vietnamese parliament on Thursday elected Nguyen Xuan Phuc the country’s new prime minister.

Phuc was approved to be the new cabinet chief at the 11th session of the 13th NA, with 446 “yes” votes out of 490 valid ballots cast by the National Assembly (NA) deputies.

Phuc, born in 1954, was chosen to replace Nguyen Tan Dung, who was relieved from the duty of Vietnamese prime minister on Wednesday. (Xinhua/NAN)
