NEMA distributes relief materials to Taraba communities

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief materials worth millions of naira to communities affected by recent communal clashes and windstorm in Taraba state.

Flagging -off the programme in Jalingo, the state capital, the Deputy Governor, Haruna Manu lauded the gesture of NEMA and charged them to do more.

The deputy governor further disclosed that some of the victims of the communal crisis and windstorm were recently relocated from Kurmi to Takum.

“This assistance is timely and appreciated; we pray that we don’t have to need relief materials as a result of conflicts as we are working hard to ensure lasting peace in the state,” he said.

Manu assured that the Taraba state government will continue to contribute immensely towards assisting NEMA in the state and to ensure that the items get to the immediate communities.

Presenting the items earlier to the deputy governor, the team leader, Mr. Igue Terungwa, disclosed that the relief materials were part of federal government’s intervention to soften the sufferings of the victims whose houses were destroyed by the windstorm or who lost property during communal clashes in the state.

He said that 170 households in Bali, 240 in Donga and 100 in Ussa Local Government Areas that were affected by communal clashes have been set aside to benefit, while 150 households in Jalingo, 200 in Gassol, 385 in Kurmi and 100 in Sardauna Local Government Areas that were affected by windstorm were to benefit from the gesture.

The items presented include beddings, roofing sheets and food items among others.
