NAFDAC seals 5 illegal bread manufacturing factories, two others in A/Ibom
The national Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), in Akwa Ibom state has announced the sealing of five illegal bread manufacturing companies in the state.
The factories were sealed at different times along with one table water factory and a pharmaceutical drug outlet between January and April this year.
They were sealed for various offences ranging from non-registration of business to non-compliance with specified standard practices and refusal to subject products to analysis and tests.
The Assistant Director/state coordinator of the agency, Mr. Collins Ogedegbe, said however in a press interview on Thursday that most of the affected have complied with the agency’s directives and specifications.
He said, ‘’we have closed down 5 illegal bread manufacturing companies, one Table water company and one Pharmaceutical company this years, our aim is not to put people out of business but to ensure that the right thing is done’’ Ogedegbe said pointing out that that the zonal office was in the picture of the development.
He said his tour of all the 31 local government councils in the state created awareness and led to registration of more business units in the state.
The Coordinator said lack of operational vehicles has really slowed down the activities of the agency in the state adding,’’ Since our operational vehicle had an accidence some time ago and the driver died we have been finding it difficult to routine checks, it really affected our operation here’’
Ogedegbe who said the agency sometime hire operational vehicle to go on routine checks called on the state government to redeem it pledge to the agency.
