Mbanefo urges Anambra youths to embrace farming

The Commissioner for Agriculture in Anambra State, Mr. Afam Mbanefo, has emphasised the need for the youths to take agriculture as a means of livelihood and to achieve food security in the country.

Mbanefo made call the call during a two-day Agro-Allied Entrepreneurship Training for all secondary schools in Awka North Local Government Area of the state organised by a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Mark Iniobong.

Represented by the Public Relations Officer of the ministry, Mr. Michael Afam, Mr. Mbanefo, observed that agriculture had attracted many investors to the state as well as generated huge employment opportunities to the youths.

He explained that the state was currently exporting some agricultural produce to the outside world.

The Commissioner, who maintained that agriculture had taken its pride of place in the state, stressed that the state government had provided agro-equipment to farmers to make farming easy in the state.

Mbanefo therefore commended the corps member, Mr. Mark Iniobong, for the gesture and gave the assurance that the Ministry would continue to collaborate with people who were interest in agriculture.

In a speech, the organiser and corps member, Mr. Mark Iniobong observed that the event was another milestone in raising a self-reliant generation of youths through Agro-Allied entrepreneurship which would end hunger and eradicate poverty in the country.

Iniobong said the idea of the event was to impact the community in which he was doing his primary assignment.

Two students, Master Emmanuel Agba and Miss Mary-Jane Ekweanya, thanked the organiser for the event and expressed their interest in agriculture because of its employment opportunities.
