LP Stalwart Alleges Assassination Attempt on Party Member
A prominent member of the Labour Party (LP), Engr. Christian Emeka Oguh, has raised alarm over an alleged assassination attempt on a key party member and grassroots mobilizer, Mr. Bede Chukwuma Okafor.
Speaking to newsmen, Oguh claimed that the assailants began monitoring Okafor after his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and subsequent defection to the Labour Party.
In an exclusive interview with The Daily Times, Oguh revealed that the attackers had been trailing Okafor for weeks, allegedly angered by his defection and growing influence among grassroots supporters who have since joined the LP in significant numbers. Oguh described the attackers as political thugs linked to Okafor’s former party, APC.
“Realizing the impact of Okafor’s defection and the waves he is making among grassroots voters, the thugs declared him an enemy,” Oguh stated.
He further alleged that Okafor had received multiple threatening messages since the defection.
On January 15, 2023, at about 2pm, one of Okafor’s aides, Mr. Ebere Iroh, was attacked while driving a silver Lexus ES350 belonging to Okafor along Ishinweke-Aguneze Road in Ihitte/Uboma Local Government Area of Imo State.
It was gathered that the assailants had targeted Okafor for the attack, unknown to them that it was his aide, Iroh, that was inside the car
Iroh later died as a result of gunshot wounds and burns sustained during the assault.
As of press time, Oguh noted that Okafor’s whereabouts remain unknown, adding that he is in grave danger, allegedly marked for elimination.
Efforts to reach the police authorities for comment were unsuccessful.
