Lagos LG poll: LASIEC and the battles ahead

The much awaited, much talked about local government election in Lagos State, an election whose party primary by the ruling party in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC) brought forth so much crisis that people were afraid that the election itself will be bloody, has come and gone and contrary to the expectations of some people it went very peacefully in most parts of the state,
The local government election held on 22nd of July, 2017 with the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) as the umpire and it has churned out 57 local council executive chairmen, empowered to oversee the affairs of governance at the grassroots level in the State.
Though litigations are expected from a number of councils over alleged subversion of people’s will, if the tribunal could not eventually overturn the election of any of the council bosses then they are to hold forte for the next four years.
In Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye and Ajegunle for instance two influential individuals in the Lagos polity, who are currently members of the House of Representatives; Hon. Dauda Kako Are of the Accord Party representing Mushin 1 Federal constituency and Hon. Rita Orji of the Peoples Democratic Party representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency are already poised to set the record straight, claiming they have evidences that clearly indicts LASIEC, the electoral body which directed that results of elections be declared at the collation centres, but refused to certify eventual winners and Ikosi-Isheri LCDA also had a fair share of this ugly development.
Internally, the ruling party APC had created enmity and acrimony among members, who formerly wields influence but got rubbished by political permutations that clearly worked against their interest, Dr Muiz Banire (SAN), who before now was a close confidant of the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu got trounced in the just concluded poll.
Imagine a deciding factor in national polity being messed up at the council level, none of his loyalist could curry any favour or got elected into office at the tier of governance closest to the people and this may likely affect his weight in the envisaged convention of the party.
Many more characters are already strategising on how to demystify the Asiwaju dynasty so as to birth a new order. The likes of Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) the three pronged Minister of Power, Work and Housing sensed to be financially able to pull weight with the political titan is believed to be silently making moves, Fashola as the case may be will leave no stone unturned to right some perceived wrongs, but clearly the state governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode is aware of this antics and that perhaps informs why most of Fashola loyalists are being weeded out of the scheme of things in the Lagos polity.
Instead of fielding popular candidates who might have emerged through indirect primaries (consensus), the party at different councils choose individuals who did not go the whole hug of screening either at the DSS stable or EFCC, nor got the support of stakeholders via consensus, in spite of all the shoddy process they held election and hurriedly swears in council heads, some of who are likely to have cases to answer at the tribunal. The Certificates of Return was hurriedly issued by LASIEC on Monday 24th, July, the next day they were sworn in by the governor and many of the elected chairmen broke the order by swearing in councillors who originally as elected officials, ought to have a proclamation to inaugurate their legislative order aided by the clerk of the house.
Just recently the apex lawmaking body in the land approved via constitutional amendment that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will henceforth conduct local government elections and this automatically if ratified takes away the job from the SIECs.
Barring any further twist to the scenario, the following are the already sworn-in elected council bosses in the 57 councils.
