Lagos CJ swears-in 29 new Magistrates

Lagos Chief Judge, Justice Olufumilayo Atilade, on Tuesday, inaugurated 29 new Magistrates into the state judiciary. However, the newly sworn-in Magistrates close relations, friends and supporters were cautioned by the CJ not to interfere in any way in their responsibilities so as to allow them succeed in their duty call.

“Their work from now on must be a “keep-off zone” for all and sundry. This is the only way you can assist them to succeed in their new career and protect them from negativity of the profession”, she stressed.

During the event which took place at the Foyer of the High Court, Igbosere, Justice Atilade admonished the new magistrates to refuse all entreaties and requests that will begin to come into the “no-go areas” following their inauguration into the bench.

Twenty-two out of the 29 newly inaugurated magistrates are women and seven are men. The event also brought 148 number of magistrates in the state together.

She reminded the new magistrates that the powers they have now cloaked with under the various laws of the land are enormous and cautioned them not to take such powers with levity as they affect the life and liberty of citizens.
