Kogi state procures 15,000 tons of fertilizer

Kogi state government has procured 15,000 metric tons of fertilizer for distribution to farmers this farming season.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon Kehinde Oloruntoba, disclosed this to journalists on Wednesday after the weekly state executive council meeting at the government house Lokoja .

Hon Oloruntoba explained that the fertilizer which will be delivered to the state next week are of MPK 20 10 10 brand that was recommended by the federal ministry of agriculture which experts said is not corrosive and as well enriches the soil after application.

The commissioner who advised the farmers to take advantage of the government’s determination and commitment to abundant food production and a bumper harvests urged them to follow instructions on the application of the imput on their crops.

He also announced that as part of measures to curb menace of kidnappers, robbers and other criminals on the high ways,the council has approved cultivation of crippling crops and other crops that can not prevent view on the road sides.

According the commissioner ,the cultivation and planting of the short variety of the crops along all the roads will be launched on friday this week along Lokoja – Okene road.

He explained that after cultivation and planting the road side farms will be handed over to the immediate communities along the roads for maintenance and harvest.
