The New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, in Kano State has suspended the Senator representing Kano South Senatorial District, Senator Kawu Sumaila, and three other lawmakers over alleged anti-party activities.
The three other lawmakers are Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, representing Rano/Kibiya Federal Constituency, Ali Madakin Gini, Dala Federal Constituency, and Sani Abdullahi Rogo, representing Rogo/Karaye Federal Constituency all of Kano State.
The party Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, announced the suspension at the Party Secretariat in Kano, on Monday saying, the lawmakers were suspended over anti-party activities.
Dungurawa said: “The members were elected under the platform of the NNPP, but have recently been acting contrary to the party’s interests, norms, and values.”
He also said they were given complimentary tickets during the Party elections, but began to work against the Party’s interests after being elected.

“We are seeing them, as not too functional members of our Party. They are doing things contrary to our interests, norms, and values of our Party, and we find it very necessary for us to have a stand, which is to suspend them because of their wrongdoings, bad attitude to the Party, and demoralizing stand,” he said.
The State Party Chairman further cited an instance in an event, where Senator Sumaila commissioned some projects, alleging that they were not invited by the Senator, whereas APC bigwigs such as the National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, were in attendance.
It will be recalled that the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, had at another gathering in Kano over the weekend, hinted that plans were underway by the party to receive senior officials, Senators, and other legislators from the NNPP into APC.
The Daily Times reported on Monday that the serving Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf At, threatened to dump the APC in Kano State with his supporters, if Abdullahi At and his acolytes are allowed into the Party in the State.
These shows the level of political wranglings between the ruling Party in the State, NNPP and the APC at the Federal level. How far the fight will go, time will tell.
