Justice Oputa Foundation tasks govt on rule of law

The Justice Oputa Foundation on Friday stated that public office holders should uphold the sanctity of the rule of law, respect for human rights, and competence in service, if the country was to attain greatness again.

In a bid to celebrate the legacies of the late Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, The Foundation announced the commencement of the Justice Oputa Annual Conference (JOAC) targeted at grooming and engaging Nigerian on the necessity of capacity and competence from public office holders.

Declaring these in Abuja, on Friday, The foundation announced the beginning of the Justice Oputa Annual Conference that would revive the consciousness of the electorates on key development issues to engage seekers of political offices.

The Chief Executive Officer JOF, George Oputa revealed these plans in Abuja while addressing journalists.

He said the annual conference which is scheduled for 4th of December 2018, would serve as a platform to beam searchlight on core values of integrity and competence for those aspiring to highest offices in the country.

Mr Oputa informed that it was only through the advocacy for competency in leadership that Nigeria would be great again.

He expressed dissatisfaction that Nigeria is not among league of countries who are striving for sustainable development.

“Leadership should be defined by character, competence and capacity.

“Good governance is imbedded when the character capacity of competence the elective officers are questionable, and that is our responsibility.

“At the end of the day, we expect the conference to help a larger Nigerian to have a shared understanding that good governance starts with getting the right people in places of position, and that begins from this election we are approaching.

While expressing optimism that the JOAC would deliver on its objectives, through cross fertilization of experiences from experts of diverse climes and backgrounds, he said “We want to be able to hold our governments accountable.”

“Our partnership with the Nigerian Governors forum will bring practical resources to help policy makers and industries to deliver on promises,” he disclosed.

According to him, about 500 delegates from all walks of life were expected at the upcoming event that would hold in Abuja, next month.
