The immediate past President of the country, Dr Goodluck Jonathan has tasked leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to focus on rebuilding the structures of the party that were almost destroyed during the leadership crisis that rocked the party for months.

This is even as the Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee, NCC, of the PDP, Senator Ahmed Makarfi declared that it would take a miracle to stop the party from regaining power at the centre come 2019.

Also, the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Mr AyodelenFayose said that the the governing All Progressives congress, APC, must die for the PDP to bounce back

Jonathan, Makarfi and Fayose spoke yesterday at the opening of the expanded caucus meeting of the party held last night at the PDP national secretariat popularly known as Wadata House in Abuja last night.

The meeting, which was attended by Jonathan, former Senate President, David Mark, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, another former Deputy Senate President, Alhaji Ibrahim Mantu, governors of Ekiti, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Taraba, Gombe , had several other key members in attendance.

The meeting is expected to reach major decisions concerning the way forward after the supreme court judgement.
In the words of the former President, “the PDP leaders need to focus now on rebuilding the party structures that were almost destroyed during the leadership tussle”.

On his part, Governor Fayose said, “the APC will soon die for PDP to inherit power. If your brother is alive, you will not inherit his property. He will need to die before you inherit his property.

“This people (APC) must go, I say they must go. Now, the coast is clear. If this party (PDP) must bounce back, we need to work hard to regain the confidence of Nigerians”, he said.

Senator Makarfi, who was last week recognized by the Supreme court as the authentic leader of the PDP, while addressing the meeting, said, ” Only miracle will stop PDP from getting to power in 2019″.

He disclosed that many people are waiting in the wing to decamp to PDP. He however did not mention the names of those people.

Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and most of his loyalists were however absent at the meeting.

Also in attendance at the meeting were former Speaker of thebHouse of Representatives, Hon Dimeji Bankole, former Senator Iyiola Omisore, Senators, House of Representaitives members, former Governors Attahiru Bafarawa, SulenLamido and others.

The Board of Trustees, BoT and National Executive committee meetings of the PDP are billed to hold today.
