Irate youth protest, burn singer’s family home in Kano

Irate youth in their hundreds stormed the family house of a kano-based musician and set it ablaze on Wednesday, after accusing the singer of composing a derogatory songs against Prophet Muhammad (SAW)

The aggrieved youth also stormed Kano Hisbah office and staged a protest over the alleged blasphemous song and called for the arrest of the singer. 

During the protest, the youths displayed various placards alleging that government and the security agents in the state were reluctant over the issue which prompted their decision to stage the protest. 

According to the Convener of the protest, Idris Ibrahim (known as Baba Idris), the youths came to notify the government to do the needful otherwise they would take laws into their hands.

He however, disclosed that previously, similar incidents occurred in the state, but the issue died without any action from the authorities, this he said would not be allowed to go unpunished.

The Hisbah commander, Malam Ibn Sina, who received the protesters, said government is on top of the situation and the parents of the alleged blasphemer are already in police custody.

It would be recalled that one Yahaya Sharif-Aminu, was alleged to have composed a song containing derogatory verses attributed to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), which prompted violence against the family members of the musician who fled the area.

Sources informed our reporter that the singer is a follower of the Faidha group, who are known for their preference of Ibrahim Nyass (a famous Senegalese Islamic scholar) over Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
