Indecent Ad: Mr Macaroni faces ARCON’s scrutiny over D’General Bitters skit

The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) is wielding the big stick against Nigerian skit makers, Adebowale Adedayo popularly known as Mr Macaroni and Miss Kemi Ikuseedun better known as Mummy wa over the indecent and unvetted D’General Bitters video skit currently in circulation online.

D’General Bitters also recently signed on about 20 music stars and actions as brand ambassadors. A star studded commercial featuring Davido, Sola Sobowale, Chidi Mokeme, Flavour, Asake, Seun Kuti, Zlatan, Cubana Chief priest, Kcee, Zubby Michael, Mr Macaroni, Poco Lee, Sabinus, Destiny Etiko, Brain Jotter and others, was recently unleashed on the online space.

According to the advertising regulatory body, the advert material was neither vetted nor approved by the Advertising Standard Panel before being exposed on social media, hence, contravening the regulations of the ARCON.

A statement by the Director General of the body, Dr Olalekan Fadolapo, calls for the immediate suspension of the material added that advertisement as it is, is in violation of the Nigerian Code of Advertising.

According to the ARCON Director General, ARCON will take all necessary steps to ensure the violators are sanctioned because the company exposes an indecent Ad material.

The statement reads: “The attention of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has been drawn to the D’General Bitters as a sexual stimulant advertisement by Mr. Adebowale Adedayo a.k.a. “Mr. Macaroni” and Miss Kemi Ikuseedun a.k.a. “Mummy wa” being currently exposed on the online/social media platforms.

“The advertisement was neither presented for vetting nor approved by the Advertising Standards Panel (ASP] and is in violation of the ARCON Act and the Nigerian Code of Advertising.

“ARCON has directed the advertiser, agency and platform owners to immediately remove and stop further exposure of the advertisement.

“ARCON will take all necessary steps to ensure the violators are sanctioned.

As gatekeepers of advertising, advertisement, and marketing communications, ARCON will continue to ensure all advertisements are ethical, responsible and in conformity with the prevailing laws of the Federation as well as the Nigerian Code of Advertising.”

D’General bitters manufactured by the Craft Methods Ltd, is said to be owned by Cletus Uzoezie Oragwa. He is the owner and Managing Director of Zenco group of companies which include oil, Zenco properties and Xenco Communications Limited and West African partner of Tecno phones.
