Homosexuality: Gay partner, one other killed in Enugu

By Ejike Ugwueke, Enugu

It was a horrible sight to behold in Ugbawka, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State as a mob descended on a suspected homosexual and set him ablaze.

While his partner, Benjamin Nwankwo escaped, the elder brother was not lucky as he was clubbed to death in a case of mistaken identity.

A senior police officer in the Enugu State Police Command, who confirmed the development to our correspondent, said investigation had continued to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killings.

Although he said homosexuality was a serious crime, he noted that jungle justice was not legal.

Similarly, in a court affidavit deposed to by one Mr Ifeanyi Nwankwo before an Enugu State High Court, he narrated the horrible incident leading to his brother’s death.

According to him, “That I am the deponent herein and make this oath in good faith for and on behalf of my junior brother, BENJAMIN EMEKA NWANKWO.

BENJAMIN EMEKA NWANKWO

“That I know as a fact that the said BENJAMIN EMEKA NWANKWO is a homosexual/gay and is only attracted to male genders, he loves to fuck all his male friends through their asses, he enjoys it so much.

“That his sexual orientation started in his teenage years while he was in secondary education, and he used to influence his male school mates to engage in homosexuality with and they did report him to school authority. then. And the School teacher will beat and flog him mercilessly.

“That our parents upon noticing his ‘odd’ sexuality took him to several prayer houses and voodoo spiritual houses for spiritual healing, but to no avail.

“That BENJAMIN EMEKA NWANKWO continued engaging in homosexuality after his secondary school days till date.

“That on the 22nd October, 2023 in the course of having sexual affair with his gay-girl boyfriend his moaning attracted the attention of our neighbors who have been suspecting my junior brother (BENJAMIN EMEKA NWANKWO) out of evidence, one of them quickly took photographs of them and video coverage of the acts and went out to report to the Neighborhood security and youth in the neighborhood.

“That fortunately for BENJAMIN EMEKA NWANKWO, before they could mobilize to our family house at Ugbawka in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu, Enugu state, he had left The compound leaving his gay-girl boyfriend in the house, that the Mob/Attackers beat and naked me and his gay girl -boyfriend, Chukwuma Okeke and burnt him to death and my senior brother came to rescue me but they mistake him to be BENJAMIN EMEKA NWANKWO, they rushed my senior brother, Ebere Nwankwo and started beating him with iron and sticks till he died and I was shouting ‘it is not BENJAMIN EMEKA NWANKWO!’

“By then he gave up his ghost, and someone in our compound secretly called the Red Cross Organization and when they came to the scene, they called the Nigeria Police and the Mob attackers fled as they saw the police coming.

“That he does not know that the Mob/Attackers descended on his gay girl-friend and killed him and my brother who came to rescue me, my cousin called him on phone and notified him to run away because they are looking for him and they vowed that anywhere they see him in Nigeria/Africa they will kill him.

“That on hearing the bad news, he started running for his dear life. The youth vowed that anywhere they set their eyes on him they would kill him because such an act is a taboo in Igbo Land.

“That on the 10th November, 2023, they came to my new location to lynch hím again but he managed to escape again through the back yard to unknown place and remain hiding for fear of being killed in Nigeria.

“That on 11th November, 2023 at about 10:21am, I went to the Nigerian Police Station to report the case.

“That I know the fact that BENJAMIN EMEKA NWANKWO continued his homosexual activities with his gay partners and they have been accosted by different persons for such acts, including the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Communities, youths in the villages and even mob actions. Because of the life threats to him and also the fear of being jailed for life imprisonment as stipulated by the Nigerian Law.”

Meanwhile, the President General of the Community, Chief Chris Eloka told journalists that Benjamin desecrated the land and would be made to face the consequences any time he is seen.

“What he committed is a sacrilege; how can a man be making love with a fellow man? So no matter how long he runs, he will face the music,” he declared.
