Gunmen Attack Taraba Villages, Kill Seven
Gunmen, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, have attacked some villages in Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State, in the early hours of Monday, killing, at least, seven persons, while many other people are missing.
According to some residents, the gunmen’s first port of call was Ayiase village in Takum Local Government Area, which they reportedly razed and moved to Tse-Gbaun and Gaza villages in Donga Local Government Area.
The gunmen, were said to have killed a man, identified as Msugh Gaza and three of his sons in Gaza, while the other three persons were killed in Tse-Gbaun and Ayiase.
An eyewitness said “the attack took place in the early hours of today (Monday). Now, the area is not safe, so we cannot search for our missing relations. But we have, so far, recovered seven dead bodies”.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Joseph Kwaji, said efforts to reach the Divisional Police Officer of Donga for details of the attack, failed as his phone was switched off.
The Acting Governor, Alhaji Sani Abubakar Danladi, according to his aide, had directed that military personnel be deployed to the area to maintain peace.
Recently, there have been threats of attack from Fulani herdsmen, which caused many residents to flee to safety.
Donga is one of the local government areas where the run-off election would hold on Saturday, April 25, but the attack had caused many people to flee the area.
